Fritz Bactershield® is a non-antibiotic aquarium treatment designed to support fish health by repairing and strengthening their natural protective slime coat. Formulated with natural oils, botanical extracts and a patented bio-adhesive technology, Bactershield creates a protective barrier that helps defend fish against common bacterial and fungal infections.

Ideal for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums, Fritz Bactershield can be used as a preventative treatment following stressful events such as transportation, handling or introducing new fish. It also helps manage mild cases of fin and tail rot, Popeye, fungal infections and gill disease.

Directions & Dosage

Shake well before use.

Standard Dosage:

  • Add 4 drops per 3.8 litres of aquarium water.

  • Alternatively, dose 5 mL per 95 litres.

Standard Treatment Schedule

  • Day 1: Add 4 drops per 3.8 litres.

  • Day 2: No treatment or water change required.

  • Day 3: Repeat the recommended dosage.

  • Day 4: No treatment or water change required.

  • Day 5: Repeat the recommended dosage.

  • Day 6: Perform an optional 25% water change.

If symptoms improve but have not completely disappeared, the treatment course may be repeated. If no improvement occurs, consider an appropriate alternative treatment following expert advice.

Reef & Invertebrate-Safe Dosing

For reef aquariums or systems containing invertebrates, divide the daily dosage into two smaller treatments:

  • Add 2 drops per 3.8 litres, or 5 mL per 190 litres, per treatment.

  • Administer the second half-dose 12 hours later.

  • Repeat on Days 1, 3 and 5 for a total of six half-dose treatments.

Important Treatment Guidelines

  • Remove activated carbon during treatment.

  • Maintain adequate water circulation and aeration.

  • UV sterilisers may remain operational.

  • Protein skimmers may produce excessive foam. Switch off the skimmer if excessive foaming occurs.

  • Complete the full treatment course even if symptoms improve.

  • Avoid water changes during treatment unless necessary.

  • Monitor ammonia and nitrite levels, as treatment may affect beneficial nitrifying bacteria.

  • Some corals and other stationary invertebrates may temporarily retract during treatment, potentially for up to 24 hours.

  • If fish show signs of distress following an overdose, perform a substantial water change.

Temperature Note: The manufacturer recommends temperatures above 27°C for best results. Only increase aquarium temperature when appropriate for the fish and other livestock being treated.
